Strange things...

Stranger things have happened….NOT! Last week, I was invited to a special presentation by a high ranking BC government ministry staffperson at the monthly meeting of the Vancouver Natural History Society. The presentation was on spotted owls and featured Mark Zacharias as presenter. Mark is a new kid on the block who knows little of spotted owls but a lot about BC government policy on the environment. In fact Mark has been charged with coming up with a plan to “save” the spotted owl without impacting timber industry logging plans! Hmmmm. Interesting, I thought. Here was a senior government apologist making a presentation to sophisticated leaders of the local natural history movement....

'Tis the Season to buy, sell and go totally green!
The Wilderness Committee has just finished our rounds of cheer -- our yearly tradition of Christmas booths. It all started with decorating the Gastown Store, painting the windows with Christmas trees, putting up the lights... then we moved on to the 33rd annual Christmas at Hycroft.

Increased Pressure to Maintain the Moratorium on Coastal Oil Development in BC

On the 5th and 6th of November, volunteers from Victoria and Vancouver congregated in David Emerson’s riding to put pressure on the Minister of Industry to maintain the moratorium on Coastal Oil and Gas Development in British Columbia (BC). Over a two-day period, thousands of houses were visited, and the public was informed of the issues associated with the exploration and drilling of oil and gas off our coastline.
