Private corporate logging project to permanently damage Grass River Provincial Park

2008-05-09 12:46:51 Tolko, a private logging corporation, has applied to build a permanent road and bridge that will bisect Grass River Provincial Park in northwestern Manitoba. The proposed road and bridge will damage protected areas of woodland caribou habitat in a provincial park, and is only being built to make more money for a private company, Tolko. Since 2006, the Wilderness Committee has repeatedly asked government for an explanation of how Tolkos clearcut logging operations are affecting the threatened herd of woodland caribou in the area, but have received no information from them. Tembec should not host meeting to plan Provincial Park management

provincial parks. Multinational corporation Tembec is instead running a management planning process on the people of
Manitobas provincial park and public lands. Tonight, Tembec is hosting a meeting in Pine Falls to plan provincial park
logging. The Wilderness Committee was invited to speak, but has chosen not to present. The Terms of Reference for tonights
meeting clearly state that Tembec is not required to follow any recommendations brought forward... (full story)

Mr. Caccia passed away on Saturday, May 3, after suffering a stroke earlier in the week. He was 78 years old... (full story)
