"Green your Campbell Cash" website harnesses power of BCs Carbon Tax Rebate
Web tool creates marketplace of cool new climate action projects, lets vVisitors vote

Vancouver – June 9, 2008

An innovative new website launched today allows British Columbians to rally support for their climate change projects, or give to the ones they like best.

Green Your Campbell Cash (www.greenyourcampbellcash.ca) showcases a wide variety of climate action projects taking place province-wide to which British Columbians can contribute the $100 dividend they will receive this month.

Launched by TheTyee.ca, BCs leading online independent news source, in partnership with the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, Voters Taking Action on Climate Change, David Suzuki Foundation, and the Pembina Institute, the website was developed in response to the B.C. governments "revenue neutral" carbon tax and accompanying $100 Climate Action Dividend going to every British Columbian this month.

"We feel that taking action collectively on community-based projects can be more powerful than simply going out and buying environmentally friendly lightbulbs," said David Beers, editor of TheTyee.ca. "This site will help to ensure the Climate Action Dividend achieves its intended purpose, which, according to the provincial budget, is to help British Columbians reduce their dependence on fossil fuels."

Groups and individuals are invited to submit climate action projects to the site that are geared toward education, advocacy, public engagement, adaptation, emissions reduction or carbon capture. Some of the projects currently featured on the site include Beat the Heat Backyard festivals to raise awareness of climate change, a cargo bike co-op and a fundraising campaign to build a Burns Bog interpretive centre.

Visitors can vote for their favourite projects and connect with project organizers to make a donation.

The site will be accepting project submissions until July 15.
